mothers day camping
last week we decided to go camping over the weekend. we were planning to go to lost lake up on hood, but trevor flew over it on thursday and said it was half frozen.
so... change of plans, we booked a site on the coast at cape lookout for two nights. we had breakfast with trevor's parents on saturday morning, and they drove out there to meet up with us later to spend the day on the beach. after the beach and his parents headed back, we made dinner, played, attempted to make a fire (but i think the pit was too damp!) and it didn't work out.. so we headed to bed and poor henry woke up most the night because he was sick. oscar managed to sleep the whole night, regardless. the next day henry was pretty snotty so we got some more beach in, went out to dinner and headed home. it was a fun little trip though! and now oscar is fully snotty, too, so it's probably good we didn't put them through another chilly night out there... hope you all had a memorable mother's day.

blossom festival
the weather last weekend was just amazing. it was summer here for 3 days.
on sunday we drove out to hood river to see the fruit tree blossoms in full effect. first, we had a pancake breakfast at the firehouse. afterwards, we headed to the pansy farm and grandma picked up a few growies for her garden that hopefully the family of ferrell cats living in their backyard won't chew up.
the highlight was the alpaca farm where oscar kept saying, "those guys are hilarious!" finally we had a bbq lunch at the apple country store and then headed home while the kids napped... then we hit the sprinkler in the back yard and walked to the grocery store for our first meal outside yet this season. can't wait for more of that weather - oscar is going to love all the outdoor activity and water this year!

the star-spangled banner
for whatever reason, a few days ago oscar became obsessed with the national anthem. he asks me (and trevor) to sing it to him over and over. and he's picked most of it up already... i predict in 2 days he'll have it down.

seabrook
the weekend before valentines day (two months ago) we rented a house with our friends cara, jay and etta in washington near the coast. they built this development filled with vacation rentals. although it's somewhat 'over developed', it's a pretty great spot to be on vacation. we loved the house and even though it poured all weekend, we had a great time - especially at the indoor pool just a short walk away. and bonus, cara let me share their new camera so these are a few photos.. cara, next time we need to do a group shot!

Boys at the Park

Oscar and Henry hope everyone had a fun Easter and want to wish you all a warm welcome to Spring. The weather has recently turned from rain to non-rain and has become really nice, we hope it will stay. One of Oscar's spring pastimes is walking around picking up dandelions, and other more exotic flowers that have not been planted on purpose. Here is witness to Oscar's growing propensity to share with "The Big H!" as he calls Henry.

6 month checkup
henry had his 6 month checkup yesterday. here's his stats:
> weight: 14lb. 11oz. - 7th percentile
> height: 27 1/2" - 84th percentile
> head circumference: 17.5" - 70th percentile
his weight is still an issue but technically he "gained" compared to the appointment we had a few weeks ago. i think then his weight was 5th percentile, height 91st percentile, and head 60th percentile. so because his height went down and his weight went up a bit, he looks a little better on the curve. the thing is - it's really just an approximation. but ideally he would be at least 20th percentile for weight. i know, numbers are just numbers and he's really developing fine. so we are going to keep on trying to get him to eat more fatty foods and ingest as much formula as possible and that's really all we can do. i can't make him eat (believe me, i try). he's too excited about the world unfolding before his big eyes. i love this age.
